1) It is necessary to study the potential social and economic impacts of each SPS 2000 rectenna on the local community. For rectenna users the actual amount of energy that the rectenna will receive is very important. This will depend on a large number of parameters, and a computer model has been developed for this using the C lahguage. The energy storage system between the rectenna output and the users is also included in the model, and suitable systems are currently being studied.2) If the SPS 2000 system is realized, rectennas will be built at several sites around the equator, and the energy demand from these rectennas will represent the first actual market for microwave energy from space. Varations calculations have been made concerning the conditions for supplying power to these rectennas from commercial satellites.Using this approach, various possibilities including the extension of the rectennas' areas, an increase in their number, and the economics of microwave energy supply from commercial satellites can be analyzed. Since the growth of this market depends on the cost of rectennas, and the cost of land and construction labor in developing countries is lower than in advanced countries, the demand for microwave energy from space from developing countries is likely to grow faster than the demand from developed countries.
