18世紀後半の浮絵について調査しおよそ500点のリストを作成した。そのリストを分析すると、屋外の作品については「水を含む風景」と「建物中心の風景」に分類することが出来る。中でも遠近法の理解・咀嚼の点から「水を含む風景」の作品が他に較べてより進んでいると考えられる。「水を含む風景」とは海・川・潮・沼等風景の中に水が表現されている作品をいう。本来西洋の遠近法では水という流動的な物質は表現されにくいとされているが、日本ではその逆である。そこには日本的遠近法という独自の形が浮んで来る。「水を含む風景」に最初に注目したのは司馬江画漢で彼の洋風画、銅版画を注意して見てゆくとその大半は何らかの形で水が含まれている。浮世絵では北斉とその一派の絵師、北寿、辰斉に作品が多い。もちろん他の絵師、歌川豊春などにもそうした作品があるが、彼等はむしろ「建物中心の風景」を多く描いている。「水を含む風景」の構図では海と陸を分ける海岸線を含む風景が遠近法としては最も成功した例である。それらは「品川」「田子の浦」「琵琶湖」あたりの風景であるが、中でも「七里ヶ波」は作品数も多く、構図として最も典型的な地であるといえる。右側に陸地と海岸、左側に海、遠景として江ノ島を配した図様は空間の広がりと奥行が出ていていかにも遠近法がスムーズに使用出来る光景である。司馬江漢は寛政8年愛宕山押社に「相州鎌倉ケ浜図」を奉納した。以後彼は七里ケ浜図を繰り返し作品化している。構図は上述のとおりであるが、この表現は北寿、辰斉などの作品に引きつがれ文化・文政期に多くの作品を生み出した。
