1.図形シンボルシステムの早期適用図形シンボルを用いたコミュニケーション指導は、東京学芸大学特殊教育研究施設に通う子どもで、言語理解はあるが、表出言語のない自閉症、言語発達遅滞等の3歳〜5歳の幼児を対象に行った。(1)発達障害幼児への早期適用 3歳児は、まだ応答の指さしが定着せず、応答性、学習の構えも悪く、図形シンボルの適用は難しかったが、4歳児は要求行動・表現に関する動機づけが高まるとともに、指さしの発達、応答性、学習へのレディネスの発達がみられ、図形シンボルの適用が可能であった。(2)コミュニケーション指導 言語発達遅滞幼児(1名)に対して、図形シンボルを用いたコミュニケーション指導を行い、114語(名詞75語、動詞27語、形容形12)の言彙を習得し、最高5語連鎖まで可能となった。自発的な要求表現が増加するとともに音声言語も出現し、現在では35語の有意味語を状況に応じて適切に使用することが可能となり、図形シンボルによる言語指導が、音声言語表出を促進することが示唆された。自閉症幼児(3名)のうち、1名は絵カードによる選択課題を実施中で、コミュニケーションボードへの移行を開始している。もう1名は、応答の指さしの定着化を目標に、指さしの語用論的アプローチを行っており、最後の1名は現在アセスメント中である。2.教育現場への適用統合保育を受けている言語発達遅滞児の場合、行動範囲も広く、家庭や大学で使用しているボードは、携帯性がネックとなってうまく使用できなかった。そこで幼稚園生活で必要な語彙に限って、携帯用のボードを試作した。しかし、首から下げたり、腰にぶら下げたり、ポケットに入れたりしてみたが、どれも不自然で対象児が身につけるのを嫌がる、まどろこしくてボードを使用しないなどの理由で、継続的な使用が不可能であった。図形シンボルと自然音声を用いた電子機器のうち、本研究ではa-VOCALとおしゃべりくんハイの検討を行った。a-VOCALは幼児の使用や教育現場の使用には、重量や大きさの点で、まだ無理なところがあった。おしゃべりくんハイは、小型軽量、比較的安価で、教育現場での使用の可能性が示唆された。今後は幼児通園施設での適用可能性について検討する予定である。
