領域の境界で半退化する双曲型方程式の初期値問題あるいは初期境界値問題について考察した。完全退化型の方程式の場合、初期値問題として適切になることがすでにわかっている。勿論、退化しない場合は、初期境界値問題として適切である。ところが半退化の場合には、一律に問題設定することができない。本研究においては、実パラメータMを含む半退化2階線型双曲型方程式について考察し、パラメータMが正のときは初期値問題として適切であり、パラメータMが負のときは初期境界値問題として適切であることが解明された。今後の研究課題は次のようである。1.非線型の場合の局所解の存在2.半退化高階方程式について同様な問題は考えられるのか?
