This study was carried out by the experiments in the laboratory and by the field survey. In the experimental study, physiological responses during bathing were measured under 3 different thermal conditions (10,18 and 25゚C of air temperature) and under 3 types of bathing (standing shower, sitting shower and sink bath) to evaluate the physiological strains during bathing. In the field survey, the facilities of dressing rooms and bathrooms, thermal conditions in the elderly houses. The following results were obtained.1) The temperature in the bathroom was recommended around 25゚C.Air temperature under 18゚C caused the great increases in blood pressure and cold thermal sensation.2) Physiological strains during sitting showers were smaller than those of standing showers and sink baths.3) The facilities for preventing accidents in the bathrooms did not provide in the elderly houses. The room temperature in the bathroom in winter was very low, and there were some cases under 10゚C of room temperature. The significant relationship between bathroom temperature and water temperature of bath was found, which suggested the coldness of body caused by the cold thermal conditions in the bathroom compensated with the high water temperature of bath. These results suggested that the bathroom environments were very poor and the improvement of them was important to prevent accidents in the bathroom.
