项目摘要

北海道伊達市の開拓は、仙台藩亘理城主伊達邦成が、その家臣とともに開拓の鍬をふるった明治3年に始まる。以来、同14年に至るまで9回にわたって宮城県からの移住が繰り返され、総計2.800余人が移住した。その後、主として東北、、四国、北陸の各地方各県からの移住者も加わるようになり、今日にみる伊達市の基盤が築かれていった。今回の調査は、伊達市の形成過程で人々がもたらした生活文化どのように受け継がれ、形成され、変容してきたかを、現在の伊達市の生活文化から過去に遡及しながら、宮城県亘理町を中心とする地域との比較において、社会構造を中心に、衣・食・住、通過儀礼、年中行事などの諸文化について調査をおこない、伊達市の生活文化を北海道地域社会に位置づけ捉えてきた。ここでは紙幅の関係で生活文化の根幹をなす社会構造に関して若干の特徴を報告しておきたい。現在の宮城県亘理町を中心とする地域においては、村組の特徴として契約講があった。これは古くは農作業の互助強力組織の結合原理の根幹をなしていたが、産業構造の変化によって今では葬式組としての機能を残すのみとなっているが、葬式の方法をめぐって新しい町内会組織との間に拮抗関係が生じている。村を構成する家々は、直系家族を旨とし姉家督相続、屋敷内別棟隠居制がおこなわれていた。この構造は相続における初子優先、同居家族の核家族が特徴となっている。伊達市の中核をなす人口は、亘理を中心とする地域からの移住者やその子孫が構成しているので、その特徴を昭和初期まで残していた。契約講は現在も存在しているが町内会が主導している地域が多い。総じていえる伊達市の生活文化の特徴は、このような歴史的背景から、第一に仙台藩の生活文化が現在においてもその基盤こなしていること、第二には伊達市およびその周辺地域に後に加わった他県人がもたらした生活文化の相互受容および同化がなされてはいるが、母村文化を色濃く残している点に道内他地域と異なる特徴がある。北海道社会は、和人の生活文化形成の歴史が明治以降であり浅いことから、生活文化各要素の複合過程がより具体的に把握される点に特徴がある。
