加齢と作業能力との関係について考えるため、課題としてワープロ作業を念頭においたキーボードからの入力作業を設定した。具体的には、入力課題をできるだけ速く自由に入力させる場合(条件1)と、ブラインドタッチによる正しい指使いに規制する場合(条件2)を設定し、高年齢者にとって、比較的なじみの薄い課題と考えられるこのキ-入力作業遂行行動と、これまで続けてきた組立作業における行動とを比較することから、高年齢者の行動特性を明らかにした。被験者として、数は少ないものの、60歳台、70歳台に加えて、学生被験者、中年齢被験者も用いて作業行動に与える加齢の影響を検討した。その結果、条件2に関しては、課題遂行による到達技能レベルに、群間できわめて大きな違いがみられたと同時に、習熟プロセスや入力時間では高年齢群で大きな個人差がみられた。その個人差は、各指の動作所要時間、入力文字の確認時間や、キ-入力動作を始めるまでの時間の長さに特に大きくあらわれた。しかし、条件1では、各群間で入力数に違いはみられたものの、条件2ほどの大きな差は生じななかった。今回は、11人の被験者を用いて実験を行い、作業行動の比較を試みたが、複数台のビデオデッキとAVセレクターを組み合わせて用いることによって作業動作を効率的にVTRに編集・収録でき、また、作業経過や入力ミス、入力所要時間の分析に学生アルバイトを使うことができたため、現有や実験設備の不十分な点を実験補助者でカバーすることができた。今後、被験者数を増やすこと、新たな課題による実験を追加すること等により、さらなる成果が期待できそうである。
