夏季休業期の8月7日〜18日に岡山・鳥取・神戸で、前期試験期の9月3日〜14日に東京・名古屋で、それぞれ11泊12日の資料調査旅行をおこない、特に岡山大学附属図書館・岡山市立中央図書館・鳥取県立図書館・神戸市立中央図書館・東京大学経済学部図書室・東京都立中央図書館・愛知県図書館・名古屋市鶴舞中央図書館で有益な資料を閲覧し一部を複写により収集した。あわせて22泊24日にわたったこの資料調査旅行で地域に密着した肥料経済史研究を東京に即しておこなうのが時間的にみて効率的と判断し、秋以降の調査地をあえて東京に限定せざるをえないものと決心した。そして10月28日〜11月2日、12月16日〜20日、1月8日〜13日の3回、あわせて14泊17日の資料収集旅行を東京で行ったのである。東京在住の方からすれば、わずか半月の短期間でいかほどの成果があるものか疑問視もされようが、わたくしとしてはいまだ経験したことのないような資料収集の喜びを味わうことができた。資料発見への道筋をひらいてくれた偶然性の楽しみを感得しえたという気すらした。名古屋でもそういうことがあったが、東京ではその感を深くした。比較的短い滞在期間でも集中的におこなえば資料収集の成果少なからずとの確信を得、またそれを実践した。7万円に達した複写費によって収集しえた資料にもとづき東京を中心とした戦前期、とりわけ明治・大正肥料経済史にかんする実証的研究を数本の論文という形で来年度から執筆できるものと判断している。すでに発表した拙稿「明治肥料経済史の一断面」を発展させる下肥経済にかんする実証的研究のための資料を今回の科研費によって発見し、一部を収集しえたことに感謝もし、それにむくいるべく資料分析にもとづく研究成果をあらわしていくつもりである。
