The study applied different types of numerical simulation models to a variety of ecosystems to understand ecosystem processes and clarify the phenomena occurring in the processes, at the same time, we tried various improvements and development of models. The major achievements are as follows :(1) A ecosystem process model developed by Komatsu et al. (2006) was applied to artificial conifer forest in the University Forest in Chiba to clarify the factors affecting starting time of transpiration depending on the location at the slope.(2) Biome-BGC model developed by Montana University was applied to the artificial conifer forest described above, which successfully estimate yield of Japanese cedar from planting to the present.(3) Century model developed by Parton and others was applied to the primary succession at Mount Fuji, which required some modifications in the parameters to show successful results in estimating the primary succession data.(4) Biome-BGC model was applied to typical grass land at Bayan Unjuul in the Central Prefecture of Mongolia. The effects of drought on biological production were estimated using the model.(5) Production efficiency model was applied to estimate global terrestrial net primary production from 1982 to 1999 based on FPAR, LAI, meteorological data (net radiation, daily minimum temperature, daily mean temperature and VPD) and land cover dataset.
