The Logic of Everyday Inference and Its Linguistic Forms : With Special Reference to Quantificational Expressions, Conditionals, and Modal Expressions

本研究的目的是深入探讨日语、英语等欧洲语言和韩语等类型相似的语言在推理语言表达上的差异和相似之处，从而对语言的普遍性和特殊性问题有新的认识。特别是，我们试图弥补被忽视的问题，一方面集中在日语的正式方面，另一方面，欧洲语言的上下文依赖等非正式方面。虽然还有一些问题没有解决，但我们相信我们已经实现了大部分目标。大约在2005年之后，我们在国际会议上介绍了成果。例如，Takubo和Sakahara在东京大学的国际研讨会“认知语言学的哲学基础”上发表了演讲。Takubo还在韩国的国际认知语言学学会和美国威斯康星州的日本/韩国语言学学会发表演讲。大约在2006年之后，我们在发表的论文中介绍了结果。例如，美图将在事件语义学的框架下发表一篇关于日语名词短语语义的论文。在威斯康星州举行的上述会议上，Takubo的发言发表在2007年3月出版的会议录中。2月底，我们在淡路梦台国际会议中心与几乎所有的研究人员和外国研究合作者举行了一次闭幕研讨会，总结了我们过去四年的研究。虽然未来的计划还没有确定，但我们都同意在研究方面保持密切联系。

This research is aimed at thoroughly investigating differences and similarity in linguistic expressions for inference among Japanese, European language such as English, and typologically similar languages like Korean, thereby shedding a new light on the problem of language universality and particularity. In particular, we attempted to compensate the issues that have been ignored by focusing on formal aspects of Japanese, on one hand, and such informal aspects as context-dependency in European languages, on the other. Although there are some issues left unresolved, we believe we have achieved most of what we had aimed at.The following are brief summaries of the results :1. After around 2005, we have presented the results in international conferences. For example, Takubo and Sakahara made presentations at an international symposium "Philosophical Foundations of Cognitive Linguistics" at the University of Tokyo. Takubo also presented at the International Cognitive Linguistics Society in Korea and at Japanese/Korean Linguistics Society in Wisconsin, USA.2. After around 2006, we have presented the results in published papers. For example, Mito will publish a paper on the semantics of Japanese noun phrases in the framework of event semantics. Takubo's presentations in the above conference at Wisconsin was published in the proceedings published in March, 2007.We held a closing workshop with almost all the investigators and foreign research collaborators at Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center near the end of February and summarized our research for the past four years. Although the future plan is not fixed yet, we all agreed to keep close contact in research.
