本研究では、従来の研究では見落とされがちであった日本植民地期の帝国大学(旧京城帝国大学および旧台北帝国大学)の、理工学部および理農学部での研究を、科学史的(技術史・技術史を含む)な観点から検討したものである。本研究は、世界的にいわゆる「ポスト・コロニアル」という概念が問題化されている状況にこたえようとして日本科学技術史・医学史から、本格的に取り組まれたものであり、世界的に注目を受けている。
