近赤外領域(波長1-5μm)において空の明るさと揺らぎを求めた。赤外線天文衛星「あかり」の観測から100秒より大きな角度にこれまで知られている放射成分では説明できない揺らぎが存在し、これが宇宙第一世代の星の痕跡である可能性が高いことを示した。また、波長1μm付近でのスペクトルと空の揺らぎの観測を目的としてロケット実験CIBERを企画・遂行した。観測は2009年2月に成功し興味ある結果を得た。
