项目摘要

本研究では、書籍流通を考える上では重要でありながらも、版本の目録化に際しては省略されてきた版元の情報に着目し、データベース化することで、出版物一点一点に対する版元の情報を明確に提示し、さらには版元の立地から当時の出版文化を概観し、地域と出版の関連性を導きだすことを目的としている。本年度は、『近世書林版元総覧』から書籍ごとの版元データを作成した。それによって、度の版元がどこに位置し、どのようなジャンルを扱って、どのくらいまで活動していたのかを具体的に考えることができる。GISを用いてそれらのデータを地図上におとし、すでに登録されている寺社仏閣などのランドマークと対照させることで、版元の立地条件と、出版した本のジャンルとの比較分析を行った。その成果を34th Annual SSHA Meetingの口頭発表にて公表し、一部を論文に纏めた。今回の研究で、大きな書店ほど大通りに位置し、特定のジャンルの書物でなく、様々なジャンルを扱っていることがわかった。さらに文学のみを扱う書店は少なく、文学作品を出版している版元は演劇、俳諧など他のジャンルを扱いながら大通りで商売していた事例が非常に多い。文学とはいえ、商業的出版物であり商業的意図と関わりあいがあるはずである。この結果を受けて、文学作品単独ではなく、版元の視点から、同じ版元が同じ時期にどのような書物を扱っていたのが総合的に考えることで、それぞれのジャンルの関連性を導きだし、当時の京都文化ネットワークを考究することができるのではないかという可能性を提示することができた。本研究は版本研究の基礎データである版元データを一覧化し、さらに地図上で表示させることによって、都市における版元の機能を客観的に提示できるところに特色がある。とりわけこれまでの近世文学研究において、内容からのジャンルわけはなされてきたが、書籍流通の全体像を概観し、版元の視点からその書籍がどのように位置づけられるのかという試みはなされてこなかった。書籍の内容と立地的、商業的意味合いとを版元という視点で有機的に統合させるという点が新機軸であり、それは文学だけでなく、演劇や医学などのすべてのジャンルに関係する総合的な研究成果であると位置づけられる。
