项目摘要

本研究は、社会学の理論が宗教をどのように捉えてきたのか、理想とする宗教と社会の関係はどのようなものとされてきたのかについて、戦後日本社会学における親鸞理解と日本社会との関係を中心に解明することを目的としている。これまでの研究では見過ごされてきた親鸞思想の解釈の変遷を辿ることで、戦後日本の社会学が宗教を取り巻く状況にどのように対峙してきたのか、どのような社会を理想としたのかを学説史的に明らかにする。具体的には、1950-60年代の社会学における親鸞解釈について、ロバート・ベラー、内藤莞爾、高木宏夫、丸山眞男、大村英昭らの親鸞解釈を取り上げて、彼らの親鸞解釈が、どのような神学・教学思想に依拠しているのかを解明することを目的としている。本研究は、社会学者と浄土真宗の教学者が、同時代に実存主義的な宗教観に惹かれ、親鸞を解釈したという事実に着目し、実存主義的神学・親鸞思想・社会学理論の３者の関係をそれぞれのテクストとコンテクストに照らし合わせながら、検証していく。この作業は、長期的には、社会学理論における宗教・神学理解の解明、理想とされる宗教と社会の関係、社会観を示すことにつながる。本年度は、ロバート・ベラーの親鸞理解を、大村英昭の親鸞理解との比較を中心に検討した。ベラーの親鸞理解が市民社会の成立が課題として共有されていた時期（1950-60年代）に形成されたものであること、プロテスタンティズムの思想史的意義との比較を通じて築き上げられたものであることを明らかにした。ベラーの親鸞理解の形成に注目すると、その後のベラーの宗教観の変遷と時代状況、さらには社会学の宗教観の変遷が明らかになっていくのではないかという今後の課題も得られた。
