项目摘要

本研究は、国際的な社会問題である自然環境や生物多様性の保全について、生息する生物の心の知覚によってその生息環境への保護意識が向上しうるかを明らかにする。具体的には「野生生物に対する心の知覚の有無による、その生物種の個体数の保護意識および生息環境の保護意識の差異の検討（研究1）」と「野生生物の心の知覚の促進操作による、生物種の個体数の保護意識と生息環境の保護意識への影響の検討（研究2）」の2つの研究によって遂行する。現在、共同研究者とともに実施した予備調査から、哺乳類、鳥類、魚類、爬虫類、軟甲類、腹足類、クモ・サソリ類、両生類、昆虫類、植物の計10種の生物を対象に、各生物種が具体的にどのような感情（喜び、悲しみ、怒り、嫌悪、恐怖、驚き）をもつと一般的に考えられているのかを明らかにした。約300名を対象に行ったこの調査から、主に哺乳類、鳥類、爬虫類、両生類に対して6種の感情が比較的高く評価される傾向があること、特に哺乳類の感情経験能力ついては他の種との間に大きな隔たりがあると感じていることがわかった。一方で植物についてはいずれの感情もほとんどないと評価されていたが、そのなかで喜びの感情が比較的高い評価をされていた。植物における喜び感情のような、一部の生物種と結びつきやすい感情のイメージが存在することが示唆された。ネガティブ感情においては、哺乳類以外の生物種においても、驚きをはじめ比較的高い感情の経験能力があると評価されていた。しかし、悲しみの感情だけは哺乳類以外の動物種では非常に低い評定であった。悲しみは高次の感情と考えられているため、人は対象の生物に対してより高次な感情の有無で心の知覚の線引きをしている可能性が示唆された。悲しみなどの高次の感情の存在が動物に対する心の知覚に重要であり、その動物への道徳的配慮の促進につながる可能性が明らかにできた。

This study is aimed at international social issues such as the preservation of natural environment and biological diversity, and the awareness of biological psychology and the protection of living environment. Specifically, the study was conducted on the following topics: "A Study on the Difference between the Knowledge of Wildlife and the Awareness of Protection of Species and the Awareness of Protection of Living Environment (Study 1)" and "A Study on the Influence of the Knowledge of Wildlife and the Promotion of Operation, the Awareness of Protection of Species and the Awareness of Protection of Living Environment (Study 2)". At present, co-researchers have conducted research on 10 species of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, molluscs, gastropods, mammals, insects, and plants. Specific emotions (joy, sadness, anger, hatred, terror, and alarm) of each species have been investigated. About 300 people were surveyed for six kinds of emotions, mainly mammals, birds, reptiles and mammals. A party is a plant, and it is a high evaluation of its feelings.
