项目摘要

To establish the international collaboration net-work, which can effectively promote basic approaches to the fundamental mechanism of regeneration and contribute to development of clinical technologies based on regenerative capacities of tissues and organs, this research project was planned, conducted for three years from 1998 to 2000 and resulted in the followings.Because studies of regeneration have not been so common and less progressed in Asia and its surrounding regions including Middle East except Japan, India and Russia, it is reasonable and effective for us to set up a center in Japan to manage international collaborations in these areas, keeping close communication with leading researchers of India and Russia.Professor Volker Schmid, University of Basel is able enough to take the responsibility as a key scientist to promote research collaborations in : Europe, keeping close communication with Professor Jeremy Brockes, University of London, who is one of international leaders in the field of regeneration. For north and south America and Australia, Professor P.A.Tsonis, University of Dayton, USA, who has kept close relation with leading regeneration researchers in both Canada and Australia and been already conducting collaborations with Japanese researchers, can manage as a key person to direct and lubricate fruitful international collaborations in these areas.Hereafter, setting up the main center in the Institute of Molecular Embryology and Genetics, Kumamoto University, we will effectively promote international collaborations to approach to the mechanism of regeneration through mutual cooperation with active researchers belonging to. Institute for Frontier Medical Science, Kyoto University and other relating institutions in Japan.
