Basic Studies toward the Establishment of Cultural Anthropology as Studies of Home Society.

This project is the investigation of possibility of "cultural anthropology as studies of home society." (home anthropology) in Japan, which has been little considered in cultural anthropological societies in Japan.This study was proceeded in the center of 3 points as follows; 1)theoretical studies in cultural anthropology, 2)comparative studies about the position of cultural anthropology in the academic fields among Eastern Asia, and 3)field studies in Japan. Research result is summarized as follows;1)Even if cultural anthropology is prescribed as a science in order to understand "other" cultures, so far as cultural anthropology is grasped in the reference of a science of understanding of "otherness", it can be said that home anthropology has a great deal of contribution to general anthropology. Especially cultural anthropology about home society, compared with anthropological studies which have been conducted in foreign countries, is the discipline to come into the open for relationship between researchers and informants, so that home anthropology give us some useful theoretical significance in cultural anthropological understanding of "others" and "otherness".2)Home anthropology in Eastern Asia is formed in the relationship to modern history in each country, so that it is said that they are relative science in Eastern Asia, and it is not possible to categorize them as one category.3 )Home anthropology in Japan is an useful method to make apparent the modern framework and ideology of Studies of Jananese.
