19世紀初頭以降進行した世界経済の緊密な連鎖の下での、アジアに位置する諸国・地域の経済の変化は、域内相互依存の深化という点でも、発展経路の相互連関性という点でも、個別の国を越えた地域的問題であったと指摘されている。しかし、各地で階層的に連なる地域市場システムが、沿海部の港湾都市を介して相互に連関するといった経済圏・地域経済システムとしての近代アジア経済を検証するに至ってはいない。本研究は、域内の主要な港湾都市について、貿易と流通に関係する4つの問題群（国外貿易・国内交易、交通インフラ、通貨・金融、国内流通システム）関するデータベースを構築し、空間データマイニングによってアジア経済の構造と動態を新たな視点から再検討する。新しい分析手法・アプローチを開拓し、国単位の分析を越えた、多元的地域経済史の統合分析を行う。本年度は、世界各地へ至る航路を決定的に変化させたスエズ運河の開通（1869年）後の1873-1893年である「スエズ運河の衝撃」期に関して、データベースの作成に向けて、アジアの主要な港湾都市である、南アジア（コルカタ、ムンバイ）、東南アジア（シンガポール、バタヴィア、バンコク）、東アジア（広州、香港、上海、天津、神戸）について、統計資料と官民文書資料、古地図等の画像資料、およびアジア各地の港湾都市で刊行された外国語新聞を調査・収集するべく、内外の文献に関する基礎的なサーベイを行った。

Since the beginning of the 19th century, the world economy has been developing in close chains, with the deepening of regional interdependence and the deepening of regional interdependence. The regional market system, the coastal port city system and the regional market system are connected to each other. This study focuses on the structural dynamics of four problem groups (foreign trade, domestic trade, currency, finance, domestic circulation) related to the major harbor cities in the region, and discusses them from a new perspective. New analysis methods: development, analysis of individual countries, integrated analysis of multi-dimensional geographical history This year, after the opening of the canal (1869), the "impact of the canal" period from 1873 to 1893 was completed, and the main harbor cities were built.
