初年度である2023年度は、沖縄島のサキタリ洞遺跡と久米島の下地原洞穴遺跡で発掘調査を行った。サキタリ洞遺跡では更新世の炉跡とみられる遺構を発見し、その周辺から貝器1点や食料残滓とみられる動物遺骸を少量ながら回収し、堆積層の微細形態等を分析するための土壌サンプリングを行った。また、洞外に新たに調査区を設けて掘削を進めたところ、洞内の区画と対応する可能性の高いトラバーチンを確認し、若干の炭化物を回収したが、明らかな人為活動の痕跡は今のところ認められていない。この下位には土石流堆積とみられる石灰岩礫を多量に含む堆積物が確認されており、本洞におけるヒトの居住と堆積層形成の関係についての情報を今後、探求していく予定である。下地原洞穴では、1980年代の調査区に隣接した区画を調査し、グスク時代と推測される焚火痕跡、水性堆積、これらの下層から保存状態良好なシカ化石を発見した。現在のところ旧石器時代の明確な人為活動痕跡は認められていない。しかし、沖縄各地の洞窟で発見されるシカ化石包含層の成因はこれまで検討されておらず、こうした情報を本遺跡から得ることで、シカの生息年代や洞窟におけるシカ化石包含層の形成要因の探求を進め、ヒト渡来や洞窟利用との関わりを検討していく材料としたい。また、既存の資料整理を進めるため、ＣＴデータ分析ソフトを新規導入してサキタリ洞出土貝器の分析を進めた。成果発表としては、沖縄島における旧石器時代の資源利用や絶滅シカとヒトの関わりに関して国際学会発表を行ったほか、絶滅シカの系統分析や島におけるヒト渡来の影響に関する国際共著論文を出版し、沖縄先史時代の海洋進出や貝器利用に関する論文寄稿を行った。

In the first year of 2023, the excavation and investigation of the remains of the cave in the lower part of the mountain were carried out. The discovery of Pleistocene furnace traces and the analysis of the fine morphology of the accumulation layer of animal skeletons were carried out. The investigation area outside the cave is set up to be excavated, and the area inside the cave is identified as highly probable. Some charred materials are recovered and traces of human activities are identified. This paper discusses the relationship between the accumulation of debris flow and limestone gravel, and the formation of accumulation layer in the cave. In the 1980 's, the study area of the original cave was adjacent to the investigation area. The investigation period was estimated to be the traces of fire, water accumulation, and the lower layer of the cave. The fossils were in good condition. The Paleolithic period is now clearly marked by human activity. The cause of formation of fossil containing layers in caves in different places is discussed in detail. The information on the origin of fossil containing layers in caves is obtained. The age of caves and the utilization of caves are discussed in detail. The existing data is sorted out, and the CT data analysis software is introduced into the new rules. The results are presented in the International Society for the Study of Paleolithic Resource Utilization and Extinction, and in the International Society for the Study of Paleolithic Resource Utilization and Extinction.
