项目摘要

人工衛星からの地球環境データとともに地上、地中、海洋等で得られる環境データの生産、モデル化および解析を研究課題として、企画調査を行った。人工衛星からのデータや地上、地中、海洋等で得られる地球環境データにはさまざまな種類があり、地球環境の把握に役立てられている。LANDSAT衛星データは、土地被覆分類に関係して土地利用状況の把握、森林管理、都市内緑地状況の広域変化や経年変化の把握などへの応用がなされている。ADEOS衛星の運用期間は短かったが貴重なデータが蓄積され、大気環境データ等の今後の有効利用が期待されている。TRMM衛星は1997年から1998年にかけての20世紀最大のエルニーニョ現象を宇宙から見ることを可能にさせた。このような環境データの生産においてどのような統計学的問題が横たわっているのかについて調査した。モデル化および解析の面では、クリギング手法がその発端に見られるように鉱物資源データの解析に有効であることが知られているので、手法の発展と環境データへの応用の観点で調査を行った。統計学のその他の手法に関しては、幾何補正に関係するモデル化、土地被覆分類に関係して判別分析やニューラルネット、空間点過程やクリギング等の時空間データモデリング、混合分布モデル、一般化線形モデルの一般化、カルマンフィルター等、さまざまな事柄が関係するので、これらについても調査した。さらに、それぞれの場面で科学技術分野の専門家と統計科学者との共同研究の企画を行った。
