Development of Intimacy Scales for Infertile Couples

The purpose of this study is to develop an intimacy scale for infertile couples. It has two objectives: 1) Refine of the "Intimacy Scale Proposal for infertile Couples (first version) (below referred to as "Intimacy Scale"), and 2) Offer guidelines for actually using the proposed refined scale.To achieve objective 1, "Preparations for the Scale Refinement Proposal" and "A Survey for the Proposed Scale Refinement" was conducted. To accomplish the former, both specific practical implementation procedures and methods for a multifaceted verification of scale validity were examined. To accomplish the latter, an Internet-based survey of couples who agreed to participate was implemented. 593 responses were analyzed, and the "(57-item version) proposed Intimacy Scale" for reliability and validity was checked. After using item-total correlation, principal component analysis, and factor analysis, the number of response items were reduced. As a result, the "Intimacy Scale (37-item version)." was completed. The overall a coefficient for the final 37-item Intimacy Scale was 0.96. Five subordinate scales (basic trust, sexual satisfaction, self-expression, dealing with treatment together, and shared sorrow) also demonstrated reliability and internal consistency. As for validity, construct validity was demonstrated by criterion-related validity, hypothesis verification, and factor analysis. After conducting confirmatory factor analysis, the results were GFI0.905, AGFI0.876, RMSEA0.066, and AIC675.5, and the goodness of fit for the model was convincing.To achieve objective 2, we used the results of our analysis thus far and conducted a literature review to prepare guidelines for using the "Intimacy Scale for Infertile Couples." Respondents can receive feedback from our web site according to their scores. In order to check the validity of the proposed guideline, we conducted an investigative commission with nurses who have expertise in infertility, and refined it.
