本研究は,現行の学習指導要領から新設された「総合的な学習の時間」の実践に焦点を当て、全面実施となってから5年目を迎えた教師たちを対象に,その授業の実態と教師たちの率直な意識を把握すべく,質問紙調査を基盤とした全国規模の調査研究である。総合的な学習の実践状況や教師の意識を量的・質的に明らかにすることから,現状での問題点を実証的に整理し,大学での教員養成や教育委員会等が主催する研修のあり方などを提言するための基礎的データを示すことが本研究の目的である.調査は、まず長野県内の教育課程協議会の「総合的な学習」授業研究校を対象とした予備調査の結果をベースに、全国調査に拡大して統計処理を行う際に、有意な質問項目等を吟味・修正した上で質問紙を作成した。全国の47都道府県すべてに、各10校以上調査用紙を配布できるよう発送リストを作成し、「総合的な学習主任または研究主任」に回答いただけるよう依頼状を添えて2007年1月に発送した。同年2月初旬に回答の集計と分析を行い、3月末に報告書を作成した。また,長野県内の学校(8月)、富山市の学校(10月)、愛知県内の学校(1月)、東京都内の学校(2月)、北海道の学校(3月)など、日本国内の「総合的な学習」の実践に関する調査校を研究メンバーの3名が分担して総合的な学習の授業実践を参観した。一般的な授業実態と今回の質問紙調査の結果との整合性を吟味しつつ、回答データを読み取る努力をした。調査結果を精査しつつ分析考察をすすめる中で、回答者から総合的な学習の実践に関し、多くの期待や要望や提出されたと同時に、学力向上政策が加速する中で「総合的な学習は廃止すべきだ」との声も少なくなかった。しかし、回答者のうち、50名弱の教師からは、本研究の次の段階となる聞き取り調査への協力を承諾する回答をいただいている。質問紙による統計的調査だけでは得られない実態把握は、今回の調査結果と合わせて今後のインタビュー取材の質にかかっていることは間違いない。本調査を総合的にふりかえって強く感じることは、教員養成や現職教育において学際的な学習の機会が十分に保障され、教師自らが問題を見つけ、問題解決の方策を主体的に考えるという学習経験の重要さである。本研究の成果は、日本生活科・総合的学習教育学会(2007年6月)にて発表する予定である。
