本研究の目的は、非認知能力の育成を促進する学校マネジメントの在り方を、特にリーダー行動に着目して、日本、アメリカ、オーストラリア、スウェーデン、フィンランドの事例の国際比較研究を通して解明することである。2022年度は、初年度のため、まず、対象国の教育政策において非認知能力がどのように説明されているかを検討した。その結果、どの国でも、非認知能力が重視されていることが明らかになった。また、非認知能力という概念よりも、社会情動的能力という概念が使用されていることが明らかになった。非認知能力という概念を大きな括りでとらえながら、社会情動的能力という概念にフォーカスすることに研究的有用性があると考えた。近年、社会情動的能力は、フィンランドだけでなく、アメリカでも重視されるようになっている。社会情動的能力育成にあたり、学校のリーダーがどのような能力が求められているのか。そして、学校のリーダーがどのような価値観、能力を持ち、実際に行動し、社会情動的能力の育成につなげているのか、という着眼点が重要であることが明らかになった。研究方法として、まず、教育経営学的研究を行い、主にリーダー行動の解明にアプローチすること、その一方で、カリキュラム的研究を行うことが有効であると考えた。その結果、日本教育経営学会と日本カリキュラム学会で活動することを計画した。これらの学会における発表と討議を通して、今後の研究の発展に向けた方策や課題も明らかになると思われる。事例研究の方法については、深く長期的に入り込むグラウンデッドアプローチ的な研究、中規模の事例研究の両方が可能となるように想定して検討する必要があることが分かった。いずれの場合も、非認知能力（社会情動的能力）との関連での各ファクター（例：校長の行動）を明確化するような分析・記述が求められると思われる。
