本研究は2年間にわたって病院と助産院での出産の結果を比較するものであるが、今年度は病院のデータが不十分なため、助産院のデータのみ報告する。14カ所の助産院に703人の産婦が予約していたが、内5人は妊娠中の異常のため病院に転送された。助産院で分娩を開始した693人の内21人が分娩開始後病院に搬送された。助産院で生まれた673人中17人が生後1週間以内に病院に搬送された。周産期死亡は31週で誘発分娩した無脳児1人であった。病院と助産院の文化人類学的な調査で明らかになったことは、両者の出産の対する認織の仕方が異なっており、それが現実の出産のあり方をも異なったものにしていることである。特に分娩第2期の考え方は、病院では早い方がよいと考えるのに対して、助産院では必ずしも早い方がよいとは考えておらず、このような認識の違いが、用いる医療技術の違いとなって現れていることが分かる。
