Development of Questionnaire in Internet answering intelligibly about Chemical Concept and Phenomena.

Home page of Chemical Laboratory in Faculty of Education of Saitama University has been developed for science (chemical) education. This report describes its contents and progress of the home page. The main contents are composed of questionnaire, automatic (server side.) services, and simulation of chemical experiments. Sixty-eight questions have been written on the questionnaire board during the past two years. The intelligible answers to these questions have been sent by e-mail as soon as possible and opened publicly on the board. Most of the questions are unsophisticated, but difficult to answer, e.g., light and colors, dissolution phenomena, electron shell and chemical bonds, acid and base, oxidation and reduction, gas and vapor, preparation of solutions, etc. Automatic services by using internet have been developed for calculated data and preparation of aqueous solutions (saline solution, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid solution, ammonia water, and sodium hydroxide solution). These programs can be downloaded and run off line. Automatic server side services by using internet have been also developed for regression analysis and drawing. The files treated with these programs are Microsoft Excel type and Java Applet type. Automatic services have been developed for simulation of acid-base titration (hydrochloric acid or acetic acid solution -sodium hydroxide solution or ammonia water).
