The purpose of this research is to develop techniques for the creation of material for language education utilizing pattern recognition technology and a multi-language database. Also, the material developed using these techniques will be made available on the Internet by making use of web technologies. In doing so, we aim to develop a self study language environment.In 2002, the specifications for a Japanese language education materials database were decided. As language materials were developed, the structure of the database was defined so that education professionals and information specialists could exchange information.
