Development and evaluation of teaching methods and teaching materials to promote deaf students' awareness of handicaps

I developed new teaching methods and course materials to stimulate the ability of deaf adolescent students to recognize their disorders favorably through classes on "Studies on Deafness". After I had implemented, reviewed and evaluated the course, my aim was to disseminate it among other educational institutions. I obtained the following results :1.I organized the content of the "Studies on Deafness" course, including the essentials of class activities, points to consider, course materials to use, and slides for display, all of which were used to stimulate students' recognition of their handicaps. I also published information discuss- ing the proposed teaching methods and course materials.2.I then focused on the following two scenarios :(i)I designed a class to encourage students to understand their handicaps by learning about the life situations of past and present deaf people. I then published course material to be used in the class and asked the students to evaluate the material. They found it useful in stimulating their recognition of their handicaps.(ii)I asked students to evaluate a method that used, as course materials, the opinions of graduates suffering from the same handicap. They found the method effective : the graduates' opinions motivated the students, stimulated their emotions, and enabled them to deepen their disorder recognition.3.I reviewed the results of a questionnaire to evaluate the students' opinions on the whole "Studies on Deafness" course. They evaluated the course very highly ; I concluded that the development of teaching methods and course materials to stimulate their handicap recognition had achieved the anticipated goal.4.I published a report on my research results and sent it to the institutions concerned so as to disseminate use of the course.
