1.Molecular basis of mixis induction of marine rotifersTotal RNA was purified for amictic, fertilized mictic, unfertilized mictic females and males, and synthesized cDNA. Cloning of specific expressed genes was conducted by DD-PCR obtained. Six gene fragments only specific in mictic females may have a function of rotifer sexual reproduction.2.Inbreeding of rotifer strains by crossing and environmental controlBy crossing Tokyo and German rotifer strains showed lower sexual reproduction rate compared to parental strains, while the population growth rate was 13 to 19% larger. Crossed strains did not produce resting eggs, and some did not induce male production. By starving neonates for 6 hours after resting egg hatching, subsequently obtained rotifer clone showed enhanced resting egg production.3.Mass production of resting eggsFor this experiment, I used a rotifer strain obtained from environment control, We used four 1m^3 tank and could produce 4x10^8 resting eggs, which was 4 to 5 times more efficient than previous data.
