The culture medium for bacterial cellulose production was prepared by effective use of cellulosic biomass. The waste pulp in paper sludge was hydrolyzed by two-stage hydrolysis in concentrated sulfuric acid process. To get suitable conditions, the concentration of sulfuric acid were examined at the first and second hydrolysissatage, respectively. When treated with more 72% sulfuric acid at the first, with 5〜25% under 100℃ at the second, cellulose was converted to glucosse almost completely. The time of hydrolysis at the second was highly depend on the concentration of sulfuric acid used.Since cellulose powder products were prepared by the partial hyrolysis of bleached pulp with sulfuric acid, the drainage of the process includes a large quantity of useful reducing sugars, but it also contains sulfuric acid.In this study, for effective use of glucose in the cellulose hydrolyzate and reducing sugars in the drainage, the removal of the sulfuric acid coexisting with the saccharide was examined by means of electrodialysis. The saccharide solutions avairable from electrodialysis were used for the preparation of the culture medium.
