ソフトウェアオブジェクト-ベ-スは、近代的ソフトウェア構成環境のなかで中心的役割を演じるものであるが、従来のオブジェクトベ-スとは異なった機能が要求され、まだ十分な研究がなされていない。本研究の目的はソフトウェア構成のためのオブジェクトベ-スの基本的要素についての研究を行うことであるが、以下のような研究成果をあげることができた。片山は、ソフトウェアオブジェクトベ-スの最も重要な機能であるオブジェクト間の関係の維持について属性文法を拡張した形式化を行いオブジェクト指向属性文法を得た。この形式的体型は属性文法の宣言的性質にオブジェクト指向プログラミングの動的側面を追加したものである。また、片山はソフトウェアオブジェクトベ-スに特有なスキ-マ変化について研究し、遅延評価にもとづく新しい進化アルゴリズムを得た。土居は、オブジェクト指向プログラミングとの関連で研究を行い、オブジェク指向プログラミング言語Smalltalkで書かれたプログラムの実行をUnix環境で実現する方法について研究成果をあげたが、これはSmalltalkにもとづくソフトウェアオブジェクトベ-スをUnix環境に移植する上で有用な手法を提供するものである。田中は、オブジェクト指向デ-タベ-スの基礎的研究を行ったが、これと関連して現在最も広く使用されている関係デ-タベ-スにオブジェクト指向的な意味でのメソッドを付加する方法について研究成果を上げた。徳田は、ソフトウェアオブジェクトベ-スにおける問い合わせ処理がその重要性にもかかわらず十分な研究がなされていない点を考慮して、ソフトウェア構成という立場からの問い合わせに有効なオブジェクトベ-スの構成法の研究を行い、属性文法およびオブジェクト指向プログラミングの立場からの成果を得た。
