「インダス・湾岸地域の文明の盛衰と環境変動」を研究課題とする本研究班は、平成3年度において、計4回の集合中宿研究会を行った。その内容は以下のとおりである。第1回:1991.7.18〜19.於 帝京大学山梨文化財研究所。テ-マ:『環境と文化』。発表:外山秀一「プラント・オパ-ル分析とその考古学的応用」;近藤英夫「インダス」文明の古植物学的背景の一端」;小西正捷「コメントと総括」。山梨県考古博物館及び釈迦堂遺跡見学、他。第2回:1991.9.21〜22.於 神奈川県伊勢原市大山宿坊。テ-マ:『黒縁赤色土器(B&R)諸文化とその地理的環境』。発表:小西正捷「B&Rの諸問題」;近藤英夫「バナ-ス文化のB&R」;深尾淳一「南インド・メガリス文化のB&R」;宗台秀明「ガンジス中原のB&R」;張替いずみ「エジプトのブラックトップ土器」第3回:1991.10.11〜12.於 名古屋大学。テ-マ:『古代インドの農業ーー農法と農作物ーー』。発表:三田昌彦「インド古代の稲作法とその展開」;応地利明「南アジアの雑穀文化複合」;近藤英夫・小西正捷「コメント:考古学的証跡から」。第4回:1992.3.6〜8.於 福岡県宗像郡玄海町及び太宰府九州歴史資料館。テ-マ:『海をこえての文明交流』。発表:後藤健「アイン・ウンムッスジュ-ル遺跡発掘調査の成果と課題」;橋口達也「稲作開始期の朝鮮半島と日本」;山崎純男「筑紫館から鴻臚館へ」;赤司善彦「太宰府の歴史的変遷」。吉野ケ里・太宰府跡他見学。その他、他研究班との合同研究会や総括班主催シンポジウムなどに参加し、また研究分担者は、それぞれ研究課題にかんする文献収集や基礎的デ-タの収集・分析を行った。その成果の一部は現在まとめの段階に入っている。
