江戸時代の大名は参勤交代の制度によって、隔年ごとに江戸に在勤した。江戸には、諸藩の上屋敷・中屋敷・下屋敷が置かれ、その数は数百にのぼったと考えられる。各大名の屋敷の間では、恒常的な交流が行われていた。この研究は、諸大名の江戸における情報のネットワークに注目し、その事例を明らかにすることによって、交流の組織を解明しようとするものである。もって、近世の上層社会の構造を分析し、江戸時代の社会と文化の実態の解明を、一歩進めることを目的としている。近世の大名家文書は膨大な量が現存しており、江戸の藩邸記録もかなりの量の存在が知られていた。これらは各地の図書館・文書館に分散して所蔵されており、本文相互の比較研究を行うことには、多大の困難がともなうのが常であったが、コンピュータにより本文相互を交流させてみることにより、従来より一段進んだ、資料からの史実抽出を行う。現在まで十数機関の大名家文書を調査した。また100頁余におよぶ「諸藩邸江戸記録一覧(稿)」を作成した。これに対しては、すでに研究者の反響を得ることができ、未定稿ではあるが、希望者に配布を行った。とくに当該年度は、岩国徴古館の吉川家文書・福井県立図書館の松平家関係文書の調査を重点的に行った。この研究は国文学と歴史学者の協力による、学際的成果を目指すところに特色があるが、当該年度は平成7年度のメンバーであり、海外留学のため平成8年度は分担者からはずれていた福田千鶴が復帰し、留学先のハーバード大学ロースクール図書館所蔵の「江戸幕府関係史料」「藩関係史料」の評価を行った。
