北野浩章は、2002年8月にフィリピンのパンパンガ州サパンバトゥのシティオ・バボという集落で、アイタ語の情報収集、現地調査を行った。調査は、ラモーン・ティグラオ、ロドルフォ・パミントゥアンの両氏をコンサルタントとして、現地の共同研究者のマイケル・パンギリーナンと共同で行った。10月までに基礎的なデータの収集を終え、11月にデータの整理・分析および論文の執筆を行った。成果は、Hiroaki Kitano and Michael Pangilinanによる"Overview of Aita Mag-Anchi in Central Luzon, Philippines : A Preliminary Grammatical Analysis"(科学研究費補助金成果報告書の一冊『論集:東・東南アジアの少数言語の現地調査』所収)に発表される。射場朝子は、2002年夏、東京外国語大学アジアアフリカ言語文化研究所で開催された夏期言語研修のために、「バリ語」(インドネシア)の教材作成およびコース運営を担当した。その多忙を極めるなかで、インドネシアのアロール島で話されているパプア系言語であるクイ語、およびスンバワ島で話されるオーストロネシア系のスンバワ語の研究を行った。赤嶺淳(研究協力者)は、フィリピン、マレーシアで現地調査を続けつつ、日本国内にて南サマ語に関する文献調査とこれまでの調査で得た言語資料の分析を行った。テキストや文例集、語彙集をまとめたモノグラフ(科学研究費補助金成果報告書の一冊)として、A Basic Grammar of Southern Sinamaを出版する予定である。
