チベット仏教カダン派チャパチョキセンゲ(1109-1169)の『東方自立中観三論書の千の薬用』(d Bu ma shar gsum gyi stong thun)の解読を通じインド、チベット大乗仏教思想形成の核心をなす二諦説、すなわち世俗的真理と究極的真理との相互関係を明らかにした。それは、プラマーナという整合性のある知識を世俗的レヴェルのものと究極的レヴェルのものに二分化し、それぞれにより把握される真理に対応している。二諦の相互関係は、同一な本質のものであるが、ldog paにより区別されると規定される。このことの意味は、同一の対象(壺)に対する認識者の認識レヴェルの相違により、すなわち世俗的レヴェルと究極的レヴェルにより把握される知識の区別により、作られたものと無常と把握することの相違がある。しかも、それは同一の壺に関する異なった二つの知識である。これが、チャパによって規定される二諦の相互関係である。このldog paの意味する同一なものにおける他方の排除による区別の設定は、インド仏教論理学派のダルマキールティのアポーハ論(他者の排除)によっている。この理論を導入して中観の理論を再構築するのはインド中観仏教のカマラシーラ(c.740-797)である。それは彼の『中観光明論』における一、多を欠いていることを論証因とする無自性論証の中で論じられ、またカマラシーラは、同書の中で、『解深密経』を典拠として二諦が同一である場合、別である場合の矛盾を挙げ、二諦は同一でもなく、別でもないと導くのである。チャパは、直接には以上のカマラシーラの見解をそのまま導入して、中観学説の解説として二諦説の関係を確定している。それは、ダルマキールティからカマラシーラヘという経緯を経てチャパに至り、さらにチベット仏教ゲルク派のツォンカパ(1357-1419)、ケードップジェ・ゲレクペルサンポ(1385-1438)、ジャンヤンシェパ(1648-1721)、ガワンパルデン(1797-?)らにも継承され二諦説の吟味の雛形となった。
