项目摘要

幕末期以降のわが国の急速な科学・技術の発展は,"日本の奇跡"などと呼ばれる.その端緒となった幕末期までのわが国における技術基盤の蓄積の様相を明らかにすることを目的として,盛岡藩の洋学校「日新堂」に関する資料情報を収集,データベース化を行った.日新堂は大島高任らを中心として設立されたが,そこで我が国でも最高レベルの科学技術の伝習が行われたということは,大島を明治政府が重用した事実と,残された遺物からも明らかである.今般実施した調査は,この「日新堂」が岩手の近代化の流れの中に果たした役割について,文書・遺物・遺跡を有機的に結合し明らかにするため,旧盛岡藩知行地域における洋学関係資料の悉皆調査を試み,その結果をデータベースに入力,複数の条件で検索可能とすることで資料の横断的検討が可能なシステムを構築することを目指した.文書類のディジタル化は,刊本で既に活字化されているものは所蔵印等の特徴の把握のため全体像と中扉および奥付に関して行い,写本もほぼ同等とした.稿本,書簡類に関しては原則として全頁のディジタル化を行った.これらのディジタル化した文書は,データベースの各カード画面のサムネイル写真の上部"アーカイブ"ボタンからリンクさせた.リンク先の画像に関しては,和書の場合,見開きで横230mm×縦150〜180mm,解像度120dpiを基準とし,画面上で実寸以上に拡大出来る程度の鮮明さを確保した後pdf化し,ページをめくりながら閲覧できるようにした.読み下し文があるものに関しては,同じく"読み下し"ボタンからpdf化した文書にリンクさせている.データベース構築には汎用のソフトウエアを使用し,前記の目的を実現するために必要な項目等を設定した.カード数は336件である.最後に,その横断的解析によって明らかとなった,日新堂における洋学伝習の様相を研究私論の形でまとめた(別添報告書冊子参照).
