本研究は、施条銃段階への移行を計りつつあった幕末期軍事技術の到達点を解明することを目的とし、1)軍事書籍・文書史料と現存する銃器そのものの調査、2)欧米列強側に残された軍事レポートや図面類の収集・検討の二つの方向から作業をすすめた。今年度の作業は以下の通り。(1)英国外務省文書マイクロフィルムから日本関係の画像史料を抽出してファイリングした(継続)。現在1870年代までの本省ファイル(FO46)と日本公使館ファイル(FO262)を中心に約900コマを抽出し、205点に目録化した。(2)英国公記録局(PRO、リッチモンド市)へ出張調査を行い、日本関係絵図・地図目録との照合作業の上、軍事施設・設備等々の図面類を調査した。このうち、研究代表者が所属する画像史料解析センターのプロジェクト研究(代表:保谷)と連携し、参考史料を含む約120点ほどの画像史料をデジタルデータとして入手した。(3)これまでに収集したデジタル画像データ計220点は、目録を作成し、DVD2枚に焼き付けた。PROの許可を得て、史料編纂所図書室に入架し、公開利用をはかる予定である。(4)同じく英国大砲博物館(ロタンダ、ウーリッチ)に出張し、下関戦争で接収された和製大砲の調査を行った。(5)コレージュ・ド・フランス(パリ)を出張訪問し、同日本学高等研究所が所蔵する明治初期軍事顧問団のクレットマン・コレクションを調査した。(6)佐賀・武雄に出張し関連史料を調査した。また、幕末期に製作された国産「施条」銃とその関連史料の調査をおこない、あわせて、旧伊豆韮山代官江川家が所蔵する木製施条器械、関連史料(国立国文学研究資料館史料館所蔵マイクロフィルム)の調査分析を行なった。

This study aims at: 1) investigating military books, documents, historical materials, and existing firearms; 2) investigating military technology on the side of European powers; 3) analyzing military technology on the side of European powers; and 4) analyzing military technology on the side of European powers. This year's work is the following. (1)The British Foreign Office secretary extracted historical data on Japan's relations with Japan. (6)Saga Takeo's investigation of related historical materials A survey and analysis of the related historical materials produced at the end of the curtain period, including the wooden striping equipment and related historical materials (stored in the National Literature Research Database).
