研究二年目に当たる今年度は、初年度完了していなかった写真資料の撮影、文献資料の収集、及び能装束及び関連品の調査を中心に、研究活動を以下のとおり行った。(1)江戸時代の能装束は、カネボウ・コレクションに含まれるものに限らず、維新に伴い明治時代以降、旧大名家から流出したものが多い。その中には、近代になって能装束が西洋諸国の人々の目に触れるようになり、彼らに高く評価されるようになったことをきっかけとして、海外に渡ったものも少なくない。西洋人は日本をどう見、どのように関心を持っていたのかを、明治時代の万国博覧会関係の記事、及び近世初期の在日西洋人の日記等を用いて検証する必要がある。また能装束の技術的研究も本研究には欠かせない。このような理由により、今年度は近代と近世初期に関わる文献資料と、能装束と技術的関連がある分野の文献資料を収集した。(2)カネボウ・コレクションの能装束の多くが大名家伝来であったと考えられ、そうした能装束が明治から大正時代にかけて多数海外に流出したが、まとまって海外に渡った能装束のコレクションとして名実ともに最大といわれるのがボストン美術館所蔵の能装束である。またメトロポリタン美術館にも昭和時代の前半に流出した能装束が多数所蔵されているので、これらを調査した。(3)国内に所在する旧大名家(池田家・前田家)伝来能装束、および博物館所蔵の能装束の調査を行った。林原美術館・石川県立美術館・京都国立博物館などの所蔵品を調査することにより、展示されることの少ない大名家伝来能装束に関する多くの情報を得ることができた。(4)写真データベース作成の一環として、国立能楽堂寄託のカネボウ・コレクションの能装束の撮影を行った。これによって、カネボウ・コレクションの能装束全ての撮影が完了した。(5)アルバイトを雇用し、能装束に関する文献資料の整理を行った。
