電子の量子性が室温程度の高温領域で発現し,異常な物性を示す物質(異常量子物質)のうち,伝導電子が外部磁場や自分自身の磁化と相互作用する物質の開発を行った。対象とした物質群は,遷移金属酸化物を中心に窒化物,硫化物,有機物など多岐にわたった。特に,巨大非線形伝導を示す有機伝導体,希薄磁性半導体として振舞うチタン酸化物,強磁性と非磁性が縮退しているコバルト酸化物,磁気相に隣接して超伝導を示すアンチペロブスカイト窒化炭化物などを開発した。
