We explored the neural mechanism underlying object vision and binocular stereopsis. We found that neurons in area V4 compute relative disparity and binocular matching, have disparity tuning characteristics suited for coding visual features protruding from the background. We also demonstrated that neurons in area IT exhibit responses correlated with visual detection of targets.
