昭和63年度も本研究班の研究は順調に進んだ。本研究班は、昨年度にも指摘したように、多くが確立された研究者であり、共通の関心のもとにそれぞれが個性ある研究を進め、全体として統一的な調和を維持していることに特色がある。本年度は、大磯の全体会議のほかに4回にわたって研究会議を開き、それぞれの研究発表を行って、熱心な討議と相互学習に努めたし、また各自がそれぞれ問題意識にもとづいて国内の諸研究者・研究機関を訪問し、意見の交換、文献の収拾に努めた。また、確立した研究者群の常として、科研費外で海外へ出張する機会が多く、それらの機会に収拾した資料・意見等も自然に本研究に反映される結果になっている。研究内容は、研究会における発表の時間順に述べると、8月の東京における研究会で本年度から参加した河野が沖縄返還問題を中心にアメリカの戦後アジア政策を検討した。なお事務連絡・研究の方針等に関して東京では7月にも会合が行われている。9月の全体会議では、毛里が中国の対外経済政策の中心である沿海経済発展戦略及びその理論的根拠とされる国際大循環論について報告した。11月の京都における研究会では西原がインドネシアにおける軍の二重機能の制度化・法制化の過程をあとづけつつ発展途上国における民主化の意味までを踏まえた報告を行った。また、吉川がラウレル、アキノの中国訪問を手がかりにフィリピンの対中政策を検討し、それが非政治化しつつあることの立証に努めた。1月の静岡における会議では河野がその後更に深まった研究状況を報告したほか、岡部が中国の伝統文化と経済発展の関係を、中国で88年中に大論争の種となった『河殤』というテレビ番組にも言及しつつ報告した。これらの研究会における報告の他、各人が関連する研究を多数発表している。
