本研究は、算数・数学、理科と他の教科の目標、内容との相互関係を明らかにすることにより、算数・数学、理科の指導内容の配列や適時性、指導方法の改善に関する基礎的資料を得ることをねらいとした。このねらいを達成するため、学習指導要領及びその解説、教科書の記述内容の相互関連の分析を行うとともに、いくつかの単元における授業の実践を通じて算数・数学、理科と他の教科の相互関連を検討した。その結果明らかになったことがらの一部は次のとおりである。○国語で重視する論理的な思考力は、数学や理科における思考力とも幅広くかかわっていること。○数学や理科の学習で概念を表す用語を理解するためには、国語の漢字や語句・語彙の学習が重要である。○中学校社会科で緯度や経度を使って位置を表す方法は、理科における天体上での天体の位置を方位と高度で表す考えの基礎となる。○中学校地理的分野の「自然災害と人々のくらし」は理科の「自然と人間生活」の学習に先行するので、関連づけた扱いが効果的である。○中学校理科における電流・電圧・抵抗の関係については、この学習を技術・家庭、技術分野の学習に生かすようにすることが効果的である。技術分野において構想を図で表すことと数学における見取り図の読み取りなどの学習は相互に関連している。○中学校技術・家庭、家庭分野における栄養の学習については、中学校理科における消化液の働きや栄養素の消化吸収についての学習と関連づけることが効果的である。
