1 北海道においては、さまざまなタイプの細石刃石核と製作技法が知られているが、およそ峠下型・ホロカ型・札滑型が古く、次いで白滝型、そして蘭越型・オショロッコ型・射的山型へ続く変遷が考えられる。2 報告者による白滝村幌加沢遺跡遠間地点の調査で得られた最大の成果は、実際には一つの遺跡に複数の技法が共存し、また互いに連関しつつ技術基盤を形成している様子が解明されたことである。この状況を「テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」と呼ぶこととした。3 北海道の細石刃石器群は、大きくは二つの「テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」に分けられる。一つは、幌加沢遺跡遠間地点で抽出された「湧別・幌加沢テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」である。ホロカ技法を含み、湧別技法(従来の札滑型)をその基盤においている。また一つは、新道4遺跡の石器群と、それを補完するピリカI遺跡の石器群から引き出された「峠下・新道テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」である。峠下技法と幌加技法が結びついて形成されたものである。これらの「テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」の起源は、北海道の最古の階段にまでさかのぼる可能性がある。現状での編年的研究によれば、「湧別・幌加沢テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」の出現が、「峠下・新道テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」よりも古い。しかし、少なくとも二つの「テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」のある部分が共存していたことは間違いない。4 湧別技法による白滝型細石刃核は、「湧別・幌加沢テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」に由来する。一方「峠下・新道テクノロジカル・コンプレックス」は、蘭越技法を生みだした。おそらく形成には、湧別技法が影響を与えたであろう。
