The research project "Multidimensional color preference modeling in the context of subjective lighting quality" aims at a holistic description of the light users’ preferences of the lit environment in order to provide suitable tools for a sustainable and human-centered future lighting design. Existing color and lighting quality models are not capable of adequately describing the interaction between preferred color shifts and the lighting parameters illuminance and color temperature discussed in the literature. A systematic investigation of these relationships should therefore be conducted, adopting the well-established formalism of the ANSI/IES TM-30-20 standard, in order to derive an appropriate lighting quality model. Following a hue-specific approach, the final model should be able to predict the preferences of the light users in a real room as a function of illuminance and color temperature of the prevalent lighting conditions. The validation of the model is performed by testing its predictive performance in real application scenarios. The model formalism including all test data and validation results will be made publicly available for download via an Open Access Git repository.
