项目摘要
Many electronic / digital library systems aiming at practical applications are recently being constructed. and their usage is internationally spreading. The spread is to promote digitization of scholarly information in general, thus they are widely affecting manner of distributing and utilizing scholarly information. This study, paying attention to international trends for scholarly information, which are driven by the popularization of electronic libraries, is to conduct fact finding surveys on electronic library systems in various countries, trend surveys on research and development for scholarly information processing, and investigation of related standardizing activities. The study also includes comparative study of scholarly information utilization and investigation on research trend and research evaluation . The study with those objectives of the above' was conducted with visits and interviews at relevant organizations as the method of survey, which was expected to identify the p … More ositioning of Japanese sience information system in the international scene and to contribute to its future advancement and internationalization. As to elextronic libraries, the investigations were conducted for universities, publishers, etc. in their operational and social aspects as well as their technicality. The surveys on full text and multimedia databases were also done in connection with electronic libraries, where related standardizing activities like SGML/XML and Dublin Core were also included . In relation with the promotion of NACSIS-ELS use overseas, demands for Japanese information by foreign researchers were investigated. Trend analysis on general demand for scholarly information . and that of bibliometric research and science policies, which were effective for trend analysis of "research on research, " were also conducted. As the plan for the national institute of informatics being discussed, the survey for the condition of informatics research in the West was included, In the study, the on-the-spot investigations with those complex themes were efficiently conducted, and the results were made public in a report .
