项目摘要

The Setouchi region was the major cotton production area in Edo period. Above all in the reclaimed new lands in the lower part of major rivers, the cotton cultivation was done at large scale. The study field on this research is the Ashida-river basin where containes the Fukuyama feudal territory. The main historical document used in this reseach is "Bingo-gunsonshi" which is the geographical description in the Fukuyama feudal domain.The results of this resarch are follows, Firstly, the cotton cultivation in dry field was donein the place of about 90 % in the feudal domain. Secondly, the central area of cotton production was the area of reclamed new lands in the delta of Ashida-river. Thirdly, the mean management size of cotton cultivation by one farm house is about 7 se (it is about 7a), Some of them are more than 2 tan (it is about 20a). The peak time of cotton production in paddy field is about 1804 to 1830 and after the period it becamed decline. But the cotton production in dry field was kept after the period for Edo period.

在江户时代，濑户内地区是主要的棉花产区。尤其是在主要河流下游开垦的新土地上，大规模种植棉花。本研究以福山封建领地所在的芦田川流域为研究对象。本研究以福山封建领地的地理描述《兵后群山志》为主要史料，研究结果如下：（1）在福山封建领地约90%的地方进行了旱地棉花栽培;第二，芦田河三角洲的垦殖新区是棉花生产的中心区域。第三，平均每户棉花种植经营规模在7亩左右（约7a），有的在2亩以上（约20 a）。稻田棉花生产的高峰期在1804 ~ 1830年，之后进入衰退期。但在江户时代以后，旱地棉花生产一直保持着。
