项目摘要

本研究は、日本近代文学の成立期であると同時に日本近代批評の成立期でもある明治10年代後半から明治20年代の時期を対象とし、この時期における小説受容の様態を解明し、近代小説受容史の基盤を構築することを目的とする。本研究目的に即して、本年度は以下の通り研究を実施した。一点目として、一昨年及び昨年に引き続き、近代書籍批評目録の作成作業を行った。本年度は『読売新聞』『朝野新聞』を対象として、明治15年から明治30年までの書籍批評記事の調査・収集を行った。二点目として、近代小説受容史の観点を取り入れ、複合的な観点から近代小説の成立機構を解明し、新たな近代小説像を提出するために、『近代小説（ノベル）という問い』を刊行した。本書は近代小説のジャンル形成の問題について、特に学問との関係性に注目して考察したものである。この課題に近代小説受容の観点を加えることで、多面的に近代小説の成立機構を解明することができた。三点目として、近代書籍批評の意識及び方法について考察した成果として「序文をめぐる人々」と題する学術論文を発表した。本論文では、近代書籍批評の特徴として、著書に著者以外の人間が書いた序文（他序）を掲げることへの批判が見られることについて指摘した。そしてその批判が、書籍は人的交流の結節点において成り立つという認識から、書籍は独立独歩の著者の産物であるという認識への変容をもたらしたことを明らかにした。四点目として、近代書籍批評と近代小説批評との関係性について解明するため「批評と誹毀の境界」と題する口頭発表を行った。本発表では、批評と誹毀との境界をめぐる訴訟を取り上げると同時に、文芸批評の領域において名誉の問題が焦点化された石橋忍月と硯友社との論争について考察した。本発表によって小説批評の問題が、司法をも含む広い文脈と密接な関連を持つことが解明された。
