火災によって焼損した法隆寺金堂壁画の状態を現地で確認する機会を得た。焼損壁画の表面状態の観察、現在の保管環境の計測、焼損壁画の支持体構造の確認等、実物を直接調査することで今後の研究の方向性を絞ることができた。また、2022年度に研究代表者らが所属する法隆寺金堂壁画保存活用委員会による報告書が出ており、同報告書内では歴史資料の調査により過去の修復履歴が詳細に記載されている。次年度以降に模擬壁体の作製や過去の修理の再現を実施するための貴重な基礎情報が得られた。模擬壁体を作製する委託先との具体的な協議を重ねることができた。
