The outline of results of this study are as follows:1. The health and physical fitness of the middle-aged and elderly are declining year by year. However. it does not effect on the sports activities of the elderly.2. The degree of fondness for doing and viexing sports is both high.3. The reason for sports participation by the eiderly is not related to a desire for competition or improvement in one's ability. Score keeping in gateball is an element of competitive sports for the elderly should be considered. its potential for giving enjoyment and improvement in well-being.4. The percentage of subjects who want to try or continue exercises and sports is 40% for the people in their fifties and 30% for those in their sixties. Athough this percentage decreases with age. the percentages are still high for sports participation. It will be necessary to faciliate certain conditions for sports participation.5. There are not so many experiences of the gateball which is typical elderly sports. The fascination with gateball is its sociability. It is important to think that gateball is one of the choice in various sports.6. Over 80% of the subjects find their life worth living and this attitud tends to be maintained even with age.7. The fiftieth and sixtieth generation people think about that they can enjoy to play sports and exercises in the later future. Those subjects think at present time that over 60% people will play sports and exercises in the future.
