当初の目的であった家系永続における精神的な要因の解明のためには, 研究法を改める必要を感じた. そこで, 直接楊氏とは関係を有しないが, 同じく永続家系であり且つ資料の豊富な孔家(孔子の家系)の場合について, 家を支えている精神を明らかにすることを試みた. その結果, 公祭としての釈尊という形での孔祭の他に, 孔家独自の, 家祭(私祭)としての孔子祭が執り行なわれていること, そして年間を通じて多くの祭祀が挙行されていることが判明した. 楊家の場合にも同様のことがあったと考えられる.
