Modern salt industry in Japan offers marked regional differences in productivity and distributive machinery. Therefore it is essential for the historical study of the contemporary landholding system to analyze positively the management structure of each saltpan according to the regions.The monopoly of salt started in the 38th year of Meiji. It has generally been considered in terms of productivity that two major groups of salpans entered into rivalry at that time. One is "Jusshu Saltpans " marked by large-scale management -- high productivity -- nationwide market, and the other is "Non-Jusshu Saltpans " marked by small-scale management --low productivity -- local market. Yet it is also evident that "Jusshu Saltpans consists of several types of saltpans, large and small, each differing with the others in date of foundation and productivity.In this study the analysis of the salt industrial management was made of the following cases: the saltpans of "Matsugaisha " in Ikushima managed by the Matsudaira family in Kagawa Prefecture, Sakaide & Co. of Salt Manufacturing, Hayashide Salt Manufacturing Co., the saltpans managed by the Tabuchi family and the ones by the Okuto family in Akou, Hyogo Prefecture, and the saltpans managed by the Morimoto family and the ones by the Kunimitsu family in Yamaguchi Prefecture

日本的现代盐业在生产力和分配机制方面存在明显的地区差异。因此，按区域积极分析各盐田的经营结构，是当代土地占有制度历史研究的必要内容。盐业的专卖始于明治三十八年。一般认为，在生产力方面，两个主要的salpan群体在当时进入了竞争。一种是规模经营——生产率高——全国市场的“巨树盐田”，另一种是规模经营——生产率低——地方市场的“非巨树盐田”。然而，同样明显的是，“Jusshu盐田由几种类型的盐田组成，大小不一，每种盐田在基础日期和生产力方面都有所不同。”本研究以香川县松田家族经营的岩岛“松海沙”盐田、盐业制造公司Sakaide & Co.、Hayashide盐业公司、兵库县阿口市Tabuchi家族经营的盐田和Okuto家族经营的盐田、山口县森本家族经营的盐田和国光家族经营的盐田为例，对盐业经营进行了分析
